This map displays current wind speeds in meters per second for locations in the UK. The data is supplied as METAR (message d’observation météorologique régulière pour l’aviation) reports.

METAR reports typically come from airports or permanent weather observation stations. Reports are typically generated once an hour.

The distribution of wind speed over the period 2000 to 2010.

Each bar shows the percentage of time the wind speed was in a particular range. The speed ranges are in meters per second.

The distribution of wind power by direction over the period 2000 to 2010.

The rose shows the percentage of wind power that could be generated in each of 16 points of the compass.

The power is calculated using the RenSMART generic wind turbine power curve.

The average wind speed for each month over the period 2000 to 2010.

The wind speeds are in meters per second.
