RenSMART has developed a wind estimation tool covering the whole of the UK.

Our primary source of data is the NOABL Wind Speed Model that provides the estimated average wind speed for each square mile of the UK (excluding offshore).

To give an estimate of seasonal variations, we make use of the NASA POWER project. This model covers the whole world, but only provides data per one degree latitude and longitude squares.

Our estimate takes the NOABL speed for a location and the seasonal variation from NASA POWER to give an estimated wind speed in meters per second at the standard height of 10 meters.

To extend our estimate to cover heights other than 10 meters, we use the Danish Wind Speed Model that provides a formula to transform wind speed at one height to another.
